Kaliakra Sail Training Vessel The sail training vessel Kaliakra is a symbol of the maritime heritage of Bulgaria and is one of the fastest and
best looking tall ships in the world.
She was built at the Gdansk Shipyard, Poland in 1984 and is owned by Navigation Maritime Bulgare. The ship was specially designed for the training and
qualification of students from the Maritime Academy in Varna - the future officers of the Bulgarian merchant fleet
.
The ship has participated on many occasions in the world-famous Cutty Sark Tall Ships regatta organized by the International Sailing Training
Association (ISTA). The many highly placed results and the international popularity she has gained have raised the prestige of the Bulgarian national flag. During the Columbus Race 1992, dedicated to the 500
years anniversary from discovery of America, Kaliakra has sailed twice across the Atlantic Sea and finished third among 143 ships.
